Rams Bounceback Candidate: Kicker Greg Zuerlein

The man with the foot of steel, Greg Zuerlein, will look to make a comeback for the Los Angeles Rams this year. “Greg The Leg” burst into the scene in 2012 when he nailed a 60 yard field goal as a rookie! Zuerlein struggled greatly last year, kicking to the tune of a 66.7 field goal percentage according to therams.com.

That 66.7 field goal percentage is way below league average as well as his own personal career average. His career high was a 92.9 field goal percentage during his sophomore campaign also according to the therams.com.

Zuerlein has certainly experienced great success in the college and  the pros. In college he was named an All-American kicker by six different organizations. “Greg the Leg”  can be a huge difference maker for the Los Angeles Rams this year as well as for many years to come.

The roles of kickers are often overlooked in the NFL due to the fact that they are on the field significantly less then the stars like Todd Gurley or Aaron Donald. Kickers face one of the toughest jobs in the NFL for two reasons in my opinion. Reason #1- Have you ever tried to kick a regulation football?

I can barely get it 20 feet, let alone 20 yards! Reason #2- Have you ever tried kicking a football 50+ yards with 80,000 screaming fans plus everyone at home watching television closely paying attention to your every move?

The pressure that kickers like Zuerlein and all the others face throughout the entire NFL is insane. I can recall a couple instances when a kicker missed a go-ahead field goal in a tight postseason game and received death threats as a result.

Greg Zuerlein is in a great position to wipe the slate clean in Los Angeles and start fresh. I firmly believe that “The Leg” will perform to something  more to a tune of his 92.9 field goal percentage his sophomore season.
