The Los Angeles Rams are inches away from signing CB Kayvon Webster according to multiple sources
First according to Benjamin Allbright, Looks like CB Kayvon Webster is going to wind up with the #Rams
DC Wade Phillips very familiar with his talent.

Also according to Cameron Wolfe..Former #Broncos CB Kayvon Webster said visit w/ Rams today is “going well.” Decent chance he reunites with Wade in a bigger role in L.A.

The first weekend of free agency saw just about all the top names quickly lock up deals and now the attention turns to the secondary market which means a lot of teams are looking for bargains.
That doesn’t mean the players available are of a lesser quality it just means that the period where big money is being thrown around like Jimmy Conway entering an underground poker room. For the Rams this means shopping for depth and in this case a starter following their offensive splurge on Thursday.
Of the Rams many needs, their secondary is thinner than Jared Leto at the end of Dallas Buyers Club luckily they picked a good year to have that problem considering the corner market is flush with warm bodies.
It is unlikely they have anything that the Patriots would want for an increasingly available Malcolm Butler and they probably won’t get a shot at any of the top corners in the draft because they’ll all be gone by the time the Rams’ second round pick would come into play.
Kayvon Webster is someone who could play opposite Trumaine Johnson, assuming Johnson remains with the team or he could even play in his stead while the Rams figure out their secondary situation in the later rounds of the draft.
Webster has a decent pedigree having played for Wade Phillips in Denver which obviously means he also has a ring and thus could bring valuable experience with him despite only being 26.
His familiarity with Wade’s system will be a valuable asset and his value would likely have been higher had he not had to play behind Aquib Talib and Chris Harris who are two of the best players at their position. Despite being 5’11, Webster has proven to be a good tackler accumulating 64 of them thus far. The drawback to signing him would be durability as he missed considerable time the last two seasons. Still, Webster is the best corner they can hope to attain and if the injury issues were more of a fluke than the Rams should get a solid cornerstone for their new and improved defense.
Even if Johnson stays it won’t solve all their problems because once they get beyond Johnson and Webster they are still very young at the position and similar to Green Bay, don’t have a lot of flexibility should either one get injured.
If the Rams end up with a Johnson/Webster corner duo than at the very least it’ll keep them afloat while they devote the majority of their cap and draft resources to adding depth at receiver, tight end, line backer, and safety which are also major sore spots.
Trading Johnson would help with that but since it doesn’t seem as if teams are in a rush to make a trade just yet, this isn’t a bad plan B. Keyvon Webster is also being courted by the Eagles and Dolphins so hopefully the Wade connection helps out in those meeting because Webster is definitely the best option in the moment and assuming he stays healthy should be a great asset for years to come.
