The Los Angeles Rams have done a lot so far in the free agency period, but it’s time to do another check in with some online mock drafts to see which players the Rams may have a chance at landing in April’s NFL Draft.
This Mock Draft will go over the Rams first selection of the 2017 NFL Draft which is the 37th pick. Below are the players.
WR John Ross, Washington
John Ross will find his way into the end zone by any means possible. He had the most touchdowns (17) out of any Power-5 conference WR last season, which already stumps what the Rams WR’s had in total last season.
Last season, he finished with 81 receptions for 1,150 yards. However, he will be another small receiver on the Los Angeles team. He is 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds. If selected he will be in the mix of Austin, Cooper, and Woods, but should the Rams go after a WR a bit taller?
WR Zay Jones, East Carolina
Finally a bigger body WR the Rams may be able to land. Zay Jones comes in at 6’2 with around 200 IB of pure muscle and agility. According to NFL Network, his strengths fit the Rams offense perfectly. He is the All-time FBS receptions leader.
Hands catcher outside the hashes and snatches it away from his frame. Swallows ball into his frame to protect it when working over the middle. Tape shows a willingness to run head-first into traffic and make the tough catch when hit is imminent. Can win all day when it comes to finishing catches at the high point. Extremely driven to succeed. Plays with good focus and footwork on catches near the sideline. Has experience working from outside and the slot. Returned kicks as a junior.
Obi Melifonwu
The Los Angeles Rams will need to address the safety problem in the draft as the Rams are unlikely to re-sign T.J. McDonald. They are going to need a fighter to enter the spotlight soon.
With the Rams already having a great defensive front, expect the Rams to find a fast safety who can come on blitz and play man to man when needed. Enter Obi Melifonwu.
Here’s a report about Melifonwu (via Walter Football):
“Every year, there are some size/speed freaks who rise up draft boards, and Melifonwu is one of those prospects for the 2017 NFL Draft. He has great size and also is a fast defender. Melifonwu was superb at the Senior Bowl as he showed real coverage skills in the passing game and looked good being the deep free safety. He is not tight and has the ability to contribute in man coverage while also having the size to be the eighth man in the tackle box.”
