Well that went as we all planned. I don’t think anyone expected a blowout victory, we all knew it was coming down to the wire. That had to be the most exciting game of the season so far it had everything, big plays, penalties, amazing catches, great runs it was just great all around entertainment. We all knew what we were getting into when they said Ed Hochuli and crew would be our officials for the game. Just so many penalties they over call everything, if it was close to pass interference last night it was called. But penalties aside it was a great game for the Patriots it’s always good to come out with a last second win.
Everyone seemed to be playing great but there were definitely some bad calls by Brady. Brady finished the day completing 26 or 42 passes for 334 yards, 2 touchdowns, and a pick which should not have happened. Deep in the red zone we should be handing the ball off not dropping back to pass. We should have given the ball to Blount for the easy 6 points. But bad play calls happen and it resulted in an interception. It really wasn’t Brady’s day but he did what he had to do to get the win.
Bill Belichick summed it up perfectly with his opening statement by saying “That was quite a game. There were so many elements to it, back and forth, offense, defense, special teams, turnovers, big plays, penalties. There were a lot of things. In the end, guys made the plays that they need to make. We had a big stop down there on the goal line. When the Giants got down there, they tried to run that roll out… that kind of pick play that they like. We got the ball back and barely had enough time to get into field goal range and Stephen [Gostkowski] made a great kick. Give our players the credit, they really stepped up. Obviously the Giants are a good football team… it was good to come down here and win.”
But all wins also come with some down side as we will be down a WR for a little as Julian Edelman broke a foot and will undergo foot surgery today. Edelman is not done for the season he may be able to come back for the Playoffs if all goes well.
Malcom Butler also had himself a game. After a first drive mistake that gave the Giants a touchdown. Butler came out on fire he was all over the place. Belichick is still saying he has not reached his “peak” yet. You have to be very excited with a player like that.
But there was no one more clutch then Stephen Gostkowski. As he hit the game winning 54-yard field goal with just seconds left to secure the Patriots victory. The Ghost had this to say after the game “I don’t worry too much about results. Obviously, if I would have missed that kick, we would have lost. That’s the name of the game. It’s fun to be in those situations. They don’t come up very often, especially long kicks like that.” He was also asked where this win ranks to which he said “we don’t rank wins.”
It was definitely a fun one as the 2015 revenge tour comes back to Gillette Stadium Monday night where they will play the Bills.
