Jimmy Butler scored 36 points on Wednesday night but it was no match for the terrific balanced club of the Boston Celtics.
Eight Celtics players scored over 10 points or 10 points as they went on to beat Chicago 105-100. Isaiah Thomas was off to a slow start in the 1st and 2nd quarter but eventually came in clutch during the final minutes of the game. Thomas scored 20, which led the team, and dished out 5 assists and grabbed 5 rebounds. Kelly Olynyk was second on the team with points (15) and had his shooting stroke of his work behind the arc. The other six balanced the floor and drove hard to the basket (Bradley-10, Crowder-13, Sullinger-10, Amir Johnson-12, Lee-12, Turner-13). Sullinger stood out on the rebounding end as he grabbed 16 rebounds. Pau Gasol of the Bulls grabbed 15 in his double double performance.
It was a true battle of defense as turnovers were starting to be a problem for the C’s early on but learned from their mistakes quickly.
Chicago played hard all night. I give them credit for what they did against the C’s as they just came up short. A guy that really stepped up and has unlimited range is former Creighton megastar Doug McDermott. McDermott scored 11 points but his catch and shoot technique really works for him and it is tough for any defense to stop that. The former college basketball star also grabbed 7 rebounds to go along with his solid performance.
Next game for C’s- Friday 11/11 vs Warriors
