It’s the end of March and the 2016 NBA Draft isn’t till June 23rd but it is never to early to discuss possible options for the Boston Celtics, as March Madness displays some of the best prospects. Here are some logical fits the C’s could look for and some that may be distant.
Brooklyn Pick-
Buddy Hield G Oklahoma- This pick would make tons of sense for the C’s. Guaranteed with a very high draft pick, the C’s could pull the trigger on Buddy Hield. An elite scorer that has been through the program for 4 years, Hield provides leadership and out of the gate production. Hield would compliment Isaiah Thomas in transition baskets and provide an extra shooter with Bradley and Smart in pick and roll situations. At 6’4 and 215 pounds, Hield is about the same size as Marcus Smart but Hield has the potential to shoot from outside the stadium. He would be a stellar pickup in the Draft and the likelihood of snatching Hield is in our favor due to Simmons and Ingram most likely being the 1-2 picks in the draft.
Kris Dunn PG Providence- A local product that has blossomed in the Big East, junior Kris Dunn is one of the best, if not the best, true point guard in this 2016 class. Dunn is an elite player when facing high competition and the C’s could benefit from having such a confidence point guard. Although you have Isaiah Thomas, swinging him with Kris Dunn would make opposing teams dread the two point guard swing. Dunn is a great passer along with scoring the ball effectively. At 6’4 and 220 pounds, Dunn is a long, muscled point guard that has insane acceleration. Averaging over 16 points and 6 assists during the regular season, Dunn was a key part to the Friars offense along with F Ben Bentil, who is coincidentally entering the 2016 Draft as well. Although Terry Rozier would most likely be relieved of his duties, getting compensation for him while you draft Dunn is something to consider if you are Danny Ainge.
Throughout Draft-
A.J. Hammons C Purdue- A senior that has gone through 4 years and has improved, Hammons has a enormous frame that the C’s would love to have. At 7′ and over 260 pounds, Hammons is the taller version of Jared Sullinger and has the wingspan of an airplane. Hammons has averaged 15 points a game to go along with 8 boards per game. Hammons could have had larger numbers but due to Purdue have another fellow C that stands 7’1, they share minutes and they work well together. Hammons is an fierce rebounder that could grab 10 boards a night (my opinion). A late round steal and a competitive rebounder, Hammons can get better with the C’s.
Danuel House- SG/SF Texas A&M- The Aggies made a great run in this year’s tournament thanks in part to a dynamic offense and senior Danuel House, who has been a bright spot for them throught his 4 years of college. An athletic wing player that has blossomed for the Aggies, House would compliment Jae Crowder on the wing, thus giving James Young the EZ Pass out of the Garden. House provides maturity and an aggressive mindset to whatever team drafts him. At 6’7 and 215 pounds, House has the size and muscle to knock down shots and get his way to the basket.
