Red Sox Sweep The Yankees Over Weekend

Although the New York Yankees have not had a great season, when the Red Sox are able to sweep their rival, there is reason to celebrate. The Sox looked great over the weekend outscoring the Yankees 20-9 over the three game home stand. To average just under 7 runs a game, while allowing just about 3 runs a game is fantastic. The Red Sox now sit in first place of the AL East, a half game ahead of the Baltimore Orioles.

1st- Boston Red Sox (15-10)

2nd- Baltimore Orioles (14-10)  0.5 GB

3rd- Toronto Blue Jays  (12-14)  3.5 GB

4th- Tampa Bay Rays  (11-13)  3.5 GB

5th- New York Yankees  (8-15)  6.0 GB

The Red Sox play looked great as they showed they were capable of scoring runs and limiting teams. They also showed that they can win close games along with putting teams away. Winning 4-2, 8-0, and 8-7, shows toughness. We saw in game one that Henry Owens is capable of handling teams and putting the Sox’s in a winning position, along with Ortiz power is still there and he can still win games with the bat and long ball.

The absolute rout in game 2 was lead by another Ortiz homer, a solid outing from Porcello, who is having a great season at 5-0, someone who I heavily criticized at the begenning of the season. Mookie Betts and Jackie Bradley Jr. each had 3 RBIs on the way to an easy win.

In game 3, the classic Red Sox, Yankees rivalry was on display, in an 8-7 victory for the Sox, featured a win from David Price who is now 4-0, a save from Craig Kimbrel his 8th of the year, and a clutch homer from Christian Vazquez that scored two and ended up begin the game winner.

The Red Sox play was very solid over the weekend and it was enough to earn them first place in the AL East. They look to continue their success in the battle of the SOX, as they travel to Chicago to face the White Sox, who are red hot lately, sweeping the Blue Jays in three and most recently splitting a four game series with Baltimore. Both Sox are in first place and playing good baseball which should make for some good games, before the Red Sox’s return to New York to face the Yankees again.
