The Most American Football Team?

Politics can be boring to some but the background of where some politicians came from are very surprising. If we were to create a dream team of politicians who played football or a former President who look like they could play football, it would look something like this.

QB- George Washington- A no brainer decision here as President Washington, before being our 1st president, commanded the militia with authority and was born with natural leading abilities. At 6’2, Washington was tall for a man in the 1700’s and still is to this day as his height and natural strength will guide the most patriotic team ever assembled. Washington is the ideal quarterback.

RB- Fob James- An all American halfback from the University of Auburn, James had a successful college career with the Tigers back in the 50’s and went on to eventually become the Governor of Alabama on two separate terms (1979-1983, 1995-1999). A true leader, James is the primary running back in this system.

TE- Bill Bradley- A person who could mold the tight end position, Bradley was a basketball star coming out of high school with his 6’5 frame and was offered over 75 scholarships but ultimately decided to attend Princeton where he shot up to stardom as he played on the U.S. National team and other incredible recognition awards. After playing a year overseas, Bradley signed with the Knicks, where he stayed put for 10 years. After basketball, Bradley ran for Senate from the state of New Jersey and was reelected in 1984. Bradley has the brains and the athleticism to mold into a great tight end (basketball to football conversion) and deserves the recognition.

WR- Steve Largent- A simple decision here, Largent was a stand out receiver for the up and coming Seattle Seahawks from 1976-1989 and before was a promising receiver at the University of Tulsa. Largent was elected into the Football Hall of Fame in 1995, his first year of eligibility and then pursued his political career as a part of the House of Representatives from 1994-2002 from his home state of Oklahoma. The best option at wide receiver, Largent is a full time starter on the dream.

OL- Gerald Ford- A standout athlete in high school at playing center, long snapper and linebacker, Ford was the ideal guy to head off to the NFL with being an All-American as well. After playing college football at Michigan (had a stellar career), Ford turned down NFL offers to go to Yale Law School. Though serving in he military and working up through the ranks. Ford was sworn in as our 38th President and even though his term was shorter than expected, Ford had a incredible journey up through sports and politics.

CB- Dave Bing- A Hall of Fame basketball shooting guard, Bing made a impact in the NBA with hi fantastic shooting and averaged over 20 points a game in his entire 12 year career. Bing then in 2009 ran for mayor of Detroit, Michigan and held office for 4 years. Although it a “brief” stint in politics, Bing had an impact in the Detroit community but will be remembered for his outstanding basketball skills. At 6’3, Bing makes an ideal sized cornerback and has the vertical to contend with the top receivers.

DT- William Howard Taft- At 6′ and 330 pounds with no experience with football, Taft, with the right coaching, can turn into a nasty nose tackle with violent punches. A Vince Wilfork type body, Taft can plug up the middle and stuff the runner with authority. Our nations 27th President is a risk or reward type of guy but with his body size, take a chance and trust the process.

LB- Dwight Eisenhower- He may be undersized but former president Dwight Eisenhower had a phenomenal track record at West Point Academy as he was a stand out running back and linebacker. A quick twitchy athlete you could say, Eisenhower was the cream of the crop at West Point but went on to be the general and then our nations 34th President. A very American decision here.
