Top 10 Baseball Firecracker Ejections (Videos)

RyanJohnson

With the 4th of July just days away we are starting to feeling festive at the T Town Sports office. And what better way to celebrate the 4th of July than with fireworks. So we will count down the top 10 baseball arguments that ended in fireworks.

10.

This is a good way to get the count down started. When you get ejected it’s all about the show you put on after. When you start throwing stuff and you take your jersey off you can ensure you will make this countdown.

Arguing a third strike is never a good idea. It almost always ensures that you will be getting the boot. But when you do get ejected for arguing a third strike you need to make sure you eject the umpire as Showalter did.

Who says college baseball can’t be interesting? Gary Robinson the skipper in this clip took exception to a call. After being ejected he would pick up the base, sign it and give it to a fan. It really does not get to much better than giving a fan a base.

When you get ejected it is all about getting your two cents worth. Lloyd McClendon made sure he got his two cents in after his catcher was ejected for arguing a check swing with the third base umpire. The best part of this one is when he goes over and yells at the third base umpire who has nothing to do with the play.

This is one of my personal favorite ejections as how often do you see a coach pick up a base than give it to a young fan. This is definitely one of the most under talked about ejections that deserves more attention. As Butch Hobson definitely got his two cents in on that one.

5.

After a home run was overturned we had a great game of find the missing home run ball. This is one of the more bizarre ejections and is definitely one that should rank just in it’s uniqueness alone.

4.

Good ole Lou Piniella another king of being ejected as he is number 11 on the all-time ejection list with 63 career ejections. Such a big guy with so much anger, he always put on a show well getting the boot from an umpire. But it is the patented hat slam with the kick that makes him number 4 on our list.

3.

Our number 3 spot goes to Phillip Wellman as he pushed the boundaries of ejections what makes everyone question how much is to much. It is one thing to be hit with a bad call but it is another to throw the bag of rosin like a grenade at the umpire. But to Wellman’s credit it was a great throw.

It is not an ejection countdown until Early Weaver makes an appearance. This Hall of Fame coach is number 3 on the all time ejection list with 94 total ejections. With all those ejections how could he not be number 2 on this list. Weaver did not back down as he really gave it to the umpire. Personal favorite thing about this video is the “Haaaa-boom” sound made by the umpire when he gives weaver the boot. Weaver has many great quotes in this ejection as you can really see how a baseball ejection sounds.

The #1 ejection goes to former Mets second baseman Wally Backman. This is just an epic meltdown for the ages as Backman swears out the umpire than continues to throw all the ball and bats onto the field. This is you 4th of July firework finale. One of my favorite quotes in this one is after the he blows up he goes up to his other player ejected and in a clam voice goes “Let’s go have a beer, Doug.”
