Bruins GM Don Sweeney announced today that the Bruins have named Kevin Dean head coach of the Providence Bruins the Boston Bruins AHL affiliate.
Dean has been in the system for some time now as he just completed his fifth season as Providence Bruins assistant coach. In Dean’s time with the providence Bruins he has compiled a 207-128-45 record in 380 games.
Dean played four years of hockey at UNH before he was drafted to the New Jersey Devils in the fifth round of the 1987 NFL entry draft. Dean played 331 NHL games with Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta and New Jersey before going into coaching.
Dean said he has “learned a lot but also has a lot to learn” and that’s what he likes about his new job. Dean also went on to say “nothing will be given to these players” they will all have to earn it.
The Providence Bruins are set to start the season on Friday, October 9th when they take on Scranton.
