Bruins Sign Forward Dominic Moore

Don Sweeny announced just today that the Bruins have signed former New York Ranger Dominic Moore to a one-year deal worth $900,000.

Moore already has some Boston connections as he attended and play hockey at Harvard University from 1999-2003. His name ranks rather high on the list of greats to play at Harvard as he is 11th in school history with 147 total points.

Moore was drafted after his time at Harvard University to the New York Rangers 95th overall. Since then he has played 765 games for a barrage of teams including Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Toronto, Buffalo, Florida, Montreal, Tampa Bay and San Jose.

Moore tends to be more of a playmaker as he has 89 goals and 156 assists in his career. Did the Bruins really need another playmaker? No, they didn’t but they are still in dire need of a goal scorer. Moore will not hurt the team but I’m not sold on really why we got him.

Boston fans may remember Moore for the 2011 Stanly Cup run. In the 2011 Eastern Conference Finals vs. the Tampa Bay Lightning Moore scored a goal in game two of that series. He would also put together 2 assists.

Sweeny also announced the signing of three others at today’s conference. Defenseman Chris Casto to a one-year, two-way contract worth $650,000. Forward Brian Ferlin to a one-year, two-way contract worth $725,000. And defenseman Alex Grant to a one-year, two-way contract worth $600,000.

I would not expect to see much of these people this year as most likely they will be in Providence. But there is always a chance one fo them will surprise us.
