The expectations for BC were that with a new QB and more offensive weapons, this is a more balanced team but once again, as we see too much, the BC defense shines but just falls short of a victory which in this case was against Georgia Tech (17-14) out in Dublin, Ireland for the Aer Lingus Classic.
Boston College Quarterback Patrick Towles, graduate transfer from University of Kentucky, didn’t throw a single touchdown but scrambled for a 6 yard score to give the Eagles offense some juice but with some questionable play calling towards the end of the game, it cost BC and Georgia Tech turned mistakes into points which pierced the win against the Eagles.
A bright spot for BC today was junior running back Jon Hilliman, who last season suffered injuries which took away his sophomore campaign as he was off to a remarkable start but the backups tried to replace him last season but his presence was greatly missed. Hilliman rushed for 102 yards on 17 carries and scored in his junior year debut which is right where he left off from last season. RB Tyler Rouse is another running back being hyped for a big season along with Myles Willis, who can fly and do punt returns.
Along with the impressive running game, the BC defense played absolutely phenomenal against the high octane offense of Justin Thomas and the Yellow Jackets. Keeping Thomas to only 119 yards in the air (without a TD) and 16 yards on 10 carries for rushing is impressive. For a QB who is one of the most dangerous dual threats in the nation, it’s remarkable BC essentially shut him down but had weapons to keep up the scoring and take home the W.
Next game for BC is 9/10 @ UMASS (Gillette Stadium)
