As the Patriots get set to take off for the desert in the Week 1 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, many things are in question for the young Patriots team and it all starts at the helm.
To the loyal fans of New England, Jimmy Garoppolo has proven himself as a “solid” quarterback as he guided the Pats to a 3-1 record with the help of Tom Brady and Jacoby Brissett but right now, this is his show and he’s got quite a test ahead this coming Sunday.
With Rob Gronkowski being quote “day to day” with his injuries, Garoppolo will most likely have to rely on Martellus Bennett and potentially A.J. Derby for the tight end spot when the time comes to deploy them on Sunday night if Gronk is not medically cleared to do so. Garoppolo is also working with a very interesting running back corps that is consisted of Blount, undrafted rookie D.J. Foster, James White, Brandon Bolden, and fullback James Develin (Dion Lewis is listed on IR and dealing with nagging injuries and a second surgery). The wide receivers include Edelman, Hogan, Mitchell (rookie out of Georgia) and a few others.
The test Jimmy G is facing is one of the most complete defenses in all of football. Arizona is loaded with talent such as CB Patrick Peterson, CB/S Tyrann Mathieu, DE Calais Campbell, former Pats standout edge rusher Chandler Jones, and other pure football players. For the Cards on offense, obviously it starts with Carson Palmer, Larry Fitzgerald, the injury rattled Michael Floyd, the emergence of running back David Johnson, and more.
It should be a test for Jimmy but the confidence he has gained over the past few seasons has led him to this point and he needs to deliver as Pats Nation is cheering him on!
