A heartbreaking loss out in Ireland last weekend lost confidence in BC fans but this week, that confidence was restored with a 26-7 win against UMass.
QB Patrick Towles had a great performance in the air and with his legs as he dazzled around to run 66 yards on 12 carries, which made him the top running performer for the Eagles today, and threw for 191 yards, 2 scores and a pick. WR Jeff Smith, who converted to wide receiver this year from quarterback, is making a good transition as he hauled in 5 passes for 98 yards and accounted for 2 scores, all of Towles touchdowns in the air. Along with the Towles/Smith Jr. connection, RB Jon Hilliman balanced out his game with Towles as he carried the ball 22 times for 54 yards and a score and K Mike Knoll drilled a 40 yard field goal and a 37 yarder as well.
On defense, the Eagles once again showed that they are one of the most dominant defenses in all of college football, holding the Minutemen to -23 rushing yards in the ENTIRE GAME. Very rare to see a team with a total amount of rushing yards in the negative 20’s, but now it is a real statistic.
