The first away game, and game in general, of the season turned out to be a success for Jimmy Garoppolo and the crew and now, it’s back in Foxboro for the next three weeks.
What the Patriots are expecting week 2 against the Dolphins is physical football and speed to burn. WR Jarvis Landry for Miami is an all purpose threat on special teams and the receiving game so keeping tabs on him and putting your CB1 or 2 on Landry would hopefully limit his game but he does have insane speed. Also at the running back position, Arian Foster has proven to be a legit runner and crafty when getting the ball. Foster put up 13 carries for 38 yards on the ground and caught 3 passes for 62 yards so the versatility factor of Foster is what New England should focus on.
Last week, the Dolphins fell short to the Seahawks 12-10 but that score shows you what kind of defense Miami has. With the addition of Kiko Alonso and Byron Maxwell, the Dolphins have a under the radar defense that despite losing Olivier Vernon to the Gmen in free agency, they tried to replace.
New England had it’s up and downs last Sunday night but the real determining factor was if they walked away with the W, and they did indeed. Garoppolo throwing for 264 yards in his first start with a touchdown to Hogan was a big confidence booster although Jimmy G had a stream of confidence going into this game. Against this Miami front seven, it is difficult to feel comfortable in the pocket and Garoppolo must maintain his poise and come through. Weapons on the outside like Hogan (3 rec 60 yds TD in last game), Bennett, Edelman (7 rec 66 yards last week) and Amendola with the backfield which consists of Blount, White, D.J. Foster and Bolden are essential for moving down the field and creating big plays.
