A victory this past Sunday for New England solidified a first round bye and yet another clinched division. No surprise here right? As the AFC East is in the Patriots control right now, two games remain on the schedule and both are against AFC East opponents.
In the New York Jets situation, facing New England this Christmas Eve will be another obstacle hitting Todd Bowles and company. Having one of the most outstanding pass rush defenses in the NFL, it’s no wonder why the Patriots and other teams alike have times of struggling against the constant blitz packages brought on by Jets defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers. Leonard Williams, Wilkerson and others have been household names on this Jets roster, but lately, they have not been executing well. A blowout loss against Miami last week essentially gave them a top 5 bid into the 2017 NFL Draft.
On New England’s end, a 12-2 record shows what kind of integrity they have with losing key parts of this team. Most would say that on Christmas Eve, it is a throw away game between the Pats and Jets, but in reality, the Jets have been known to surprise better ranked teams. With Trey Flowers, Dion Lewis, and all these players from last week emerging from the spotlight to this weeks game, who knows who could be in line for a surprise game.
