Sixty minutes was not enough for time for there to be declared a winner between UMass-Lowell and Notre Dame as this game held incredibly high stakes as they winner would represent the Northeast in the Frozen Four in Chicago.

When the snow finally settled it was Notre Dame who would upset UMass-Lowell by a final score of 3-2 in overtime. This was an incredibly well-played game by both teams as they as the momentum stayed even thought the whole game.

From the opening puck drop to the final buzzer we had ourselves a great hockey game as both teams came out flying and hard hitting right out of the gate. Despite a common theme of this game being that Notre Dame could not hit the net, but they did indeed strike first on a Cam Morrison goal.

But that 1-0 lead for the Irish would not last as UMass Lowell’s Ryan Collins tied the game just minutes latter. From that goal on the intensity was at an all time high for both teams.

We did not see another goal untill mid-way though the third period. We saw long streches of play with back-and-fourth action the whole time. Lowell was giving Notre Dame oppertunites to jump on the second and thrid period as turnovers deep in their zone gave the Irish alot of qulaity socring chances but UMass goalie Tyler Wall played a fantasitc game keeping Lowell in it untill the very end.

UMass Lowell’s John Edwardh broke the 1-1 tie eleven minuites into the third period. That UMass lowell lead did also did not last long as the Irish tied it with a beautifuly tipped goal.

From there we would head to overtime all tied at two where it did not last long as two minutes and fourty four second in Notre Dame’s Andrew Oglevie found the back of the net sending Notre Dame to the Frozen Four.

“With 7 minuites to go [we] went into to much of a lul, [we] played to much defence” UMass-Lowell’s Head Coach Norm Bazin said “we tried to be way to cute and it came back to bite us”.

Notre Dame will now join Harvard, Minnesota-Dulluth, and the winner of Denver and Penn State in Chicago to play in the Frozen Four in two weeks.
