Are you a resident of San Diego who’s looking to get into the best shape of your life while also learning how to defend yourself? The Arena has the distinction of being North America’s largest combat sports gym, perfect for those who are just starting out as well as those who have a bit of experience under their belts. Learn more about boxing, jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai and MMA programs.

Boxing

While boxing may not have the same flare as some martial arts, it makes for a fantastic workout. Our trainers have a background in coaching beginners and working with boxing pros. We’re also proud to say that our San Diego Boxing club has the area’s largest amateur and pro boxing teams.

Beginner boxers can enroll in weekly classes where they learn head movement, proper footwork, body mechanics and how to punch. Not to worry if you’d rather not engage in sparring, you can focus on punching combinations, power, defense and speed at San Diego’s Top Boxing Gym.

As for boxing coaches at The Arena, all of them have several years of experience. Coach Basheer Abdullah is a former U.S. Army world-class athlete program head boxing coach as well as an Armed Forces boxing coach.

Jiu-Jitsu

We have the proud distinction of acting as the headquarters of Baret Submissions, which is San Diego’s newest jiu-jitsu association operated by Master Baret Yoshida. Master Yoshida teaches jiu-jitsu beginners and masters alike

We offer 50 weekly jiu-jitsu classes for adults, ranging from the fundamentals to advanced classes. If you like, you can even engage in high-level competition training. Know that we also have a competition team, if you care to join. The Arena also hosts jiu-jitsu training camps and mini-camps designed for local tournaments.

Muay Thai

Do you have an interest in traditional Muay Thai? If so, know you’ll find just that with us here at The Arena. Master Kru Mark has almost 60 years of experience training beginners and experts alike. One of the greatest things about Muay Thai is the fact that it’s ideal for learning a solid fighting technique while you focus on improving your fitness level and learning self-defense.

As a beginner, you’ll learn footwork; defensive skills; and how to properly use your elbows, knees, kicks and punches. Once you’ve learned the basics, you can move on to advanced striking combos, clinch work, takedowns, throws and counter attacks. We also host sparring sessions, which are made up of kickboxers and MMA fighters. The benefit of this is that you have a chance to test your skills in different fighting styles and systems.

MMA

Our combat sports gym has trained individuals who started out as regular students and went on to become amateur MMA champions and have professional careers. Not to worry if you don’t see yourself becoming an MMA professional fighter, our courses are ideal for those looking to get in great shape while learning how to defend themselves in dangerous situations.

Just like with the rest of the combat sport mentioned above, we gladly accept students who come to us with zero experience in MMA, there’s no need to feel intimidated. If you do like the idea of potentially competing one day, we can help you create a specialized training plan. You just may have the chance to spar and train with fighters from around the world who come to us train.

Know that The Arena offers many more styles than MMA, jiu-jitsu, boxing and Muay Thai. No matter how simple or complex you’re looking to keep your workouts or fighting style, we’re confident we have the perfect option for you. Don’t hesitate to contact us to learn more.
