The Dolphins are still celebrating one of the greatest, most entertaining and improbable plays in franchise history, with fans, analysts and players still in the “Miami Miracle” spirit.
Miami was a play away from seeing its playoff hopes disappear, trailing New England by six points with only 16 seconds remaining in Sunday’s game. The Dolphins were 69 yards away from the end zone, so a Hail Mary pass was out of the question. Instead, the team elected to run a hook-and-ladder play — and it worked. Kenyan Drake raced down the sideline, as a slowfooted Rob Gronkowski looked on, for the walk-off touchdown.
The powers that be at Hard Rock Stadium haven’t forgotten about it, either, and they won’t anytime soon. The Dolphins even went as far as to decorate an elevator in “Miami Miracle” garb, with a photo showing Drake after the game-winning score.
