The Dolphins are set to miss the playoffs for the ninth time in their past 10 seasons, and it’s time for the team to make a change.
As of right now, a report from Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald states that the team will be looking to retain head coach Adam Gase. However, VP of player personnel Mike Tannenbaum will likely be fired. This is interesting, as Gase has been given a lot of control over building the roster as well, yet it appears Tannenbaum will be falling on the sword for it all, so to speak.
But he’s not alone, either, as it relates to change going forward. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill is looking to be on the outs as well. A report from Barry Jackson states that the team is prepared to move on from Tannehill, who the team drafted with the eighth overall pick in 2012.
This actually doesn’t come as a huge surprise, as Tannehill has shown that he’s not the quarterback to lead the Dolphins into the playoffs and beyond. He’s had seven years to do that, and hasn’t been able to do so. All the other AFC East teams not in New England — Bills, Jets — drafted quarterbacks so they’ll be ready to compete against the Patriots for the division title once Tom Brady and Bill Belichick call it quits. The Dolphins would be wise to do the same. The team knows what they’re getting from Tannehill, and he is what he’s always been — a mediocre, middle-of-the-pack quarterback.
This week, the Dolphins are traveling to Buffalo as 3.5-point underdogs for the Week 17 matchup in New Era Field. That game doesn’t figure to draw much betting action, but if you’re interested in wagering on it, make sure to check out this popular advice website for all your needs.
As for Tannehill, it will be interesting what life after Miami will hold for him, assuming he’s moved. The Dolphins could save $13 million if they cut or trade him by June 1, but if they do so afterward, it would be $19 million, due to the dead cap money. It remains to be seen what other teams could be interested in his services, though, given his durability, and the fact that he’s never won a playoff game.
