Today we go 1 on 1 with Dolphins legend Richmond Webb. Webb, who was a perennial All-Pro left tackle and member of the 90’s All Decade team, was responsible for making Dan Marino one of the least sacked quarterback’s of the 90’s.
Big Rich was gracious enough to do a Q & A. We touch on Laremy Tunsil, Ryan Tannehill, Adam Gase and Dan Marino. We hope you enjoy.
1. Being arguable the greatest LT history. How important was it to your success to have a competent guard playing next to you? Very important. I was fortunate to play with Keith Sims. We were both rookies but it was a match made in heaven. As an offensive lineman, you have to work with the guy playing next to you on run blocking and pass blocking plays. I was fortunate to have an All Pro playing next to me so it made my job easier.
2. Much was made about the Phins drafting Laremy Tunsil. What kind of impact will he make on the offensive line? I think Laremy will make an immediate impact. He was s great player in college. He will help solidify the offensive line. That will help the running game and passing game. The key is get him signed and into camp early.
3. The last 4 years we have seen some really good and really bad moment from Ryan Tannehill. A lot has been made about the OL’s play. How much are they apart of his struggles? They are part of his success and his struggles. It’s a team sport. You can see a big difference when the offensive line is healthy. There have been several key injuries on the offensive line and that definitely affects Tannehill.
4. How do you think Adam Gase has done so far? Specifically with the offseason moves and staff he put together? I think Coach Gase has done a good job with the offseason moves and staff thus far. If everything comes together, we will be some happy DOLFANS.
5 The last 2 questions are for the nostalgic fans. What is your most memorable game? I guess the game that comes to mind is when we were playing the Eagles in Philadelphia. We won and Coach Shula became the winningest Coach in the NFL.
6. What is your favorite Dan Marino memory whether off the field or on? I have so many fond memories of Dan. From playing on the field, joking in practice or the locker room, to just learning how to be a professional on and off the field. I guess just having the opportunity to play with one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game.
We wanna give another big thanks to Richmond for answering our questions. If you aren’t following him on Twiter, make sure you do so @RichmondWebb.
As always, Phins Up!!
