NCAA Football : No. 14 Hurricanes Overcome Early Deficit vs. Georgia Tech, Win ACC Opener

The 14th ranked Miami Hurricanes (5-0, 1-0 ACC) remained unbeaten against the upset minded Yellow Jackets. Georgia Tech (3-2, 1-1 ACC) running back David Sims scored the first touchdown for the Yellow Jackets to gain the early 7-0 lead. Hurricanes wide receiver Phillip Dorsett ( 4 receptions, 66 yards, 1 touchdown) answered quickly with a 40 yard touchdown pass from Miami quarterback Stephen Morris  ( 17 completions, 324 yards, 3 touchdowns, 2 interceptions) .  Miami’s first scoring drive was lightning fast, only taking 32 seconds.

The Yellow Jackets seized control the rest of the first quarter. Harrison Butker nailed a 45 yard field goal to make it 10-7 Georgia Tech. Yellow Jackets running back Charles Perkins rushed for a 30 yard touchdown. Georgia Tech led at the end of the first quarter 17-7.

Miami seized control of the rest of the game. Clive Walford caught a 4 yard touchdown pass from Morris with 8 minutes, 22 seconds left in the half.  Hurricanes Kicker Matt Goudis nailed a 24 yard field goal.  The score remained tied 17 all at the half.

The second half was an apocalyptic nightmare for Georgia Tech.  Miami scored late in the third quarter via the Allen Hurns 69 yard touchdown reception. The score at the end of the third quarter was Miami 24. Georgia Tech 17.

Miami stampeded over the Yellow Jackets in the fourth quarter. After Georgia Tech missed the extra point after Sims 6 yard rushing touchdown, Miami scored 21 consecutive points. Georgia Tech scored a late touchdown which left little consolation as the Miami Hurricanes defeated Georgia Tech 45-30.

Miami will take on North Carolina on October 17th.
