Two days after signing free-agent forward Earl Clark, the Cleveland Cavaliers have struck again in signing guard Jarrett Jack, formerly of Golden State.
Jack, 29, averaged 12.9 points, 5.5 assists, 3.1 assists while shooting 40.4 percent from three-point range in 79 regular-season games for the Warriors and 17.2 points, 4.4 assists, 4.7 assists in 12 post-season games during the 2012-13 NBA Playoffs.
In Cleveland, the eight-year veteran out of Georgia Tech, will most likely used as the primary backup to Kyrie Irving, due to the All-Star point guard’s recent rash of injury, as well as a possible shooting guard along second-year shooting guard Dion Waiters three-guard sets.
In landing both Clark and Jack, it seems that Cleveland’s plan is to add players of veteran caliber to back up Irving/Waiters as well as offer some offensive firepower off of the bench such as Clark down low.
Not known for making noise or making a big splash in free agency–unless you count the failed signing of Larry Hughes–it seems that the Cavaliers are finally getting the memo in upgrading two glaring areas of need in the backcourt in Jack and down low with Clark, which in itself, is a promising start for Cleveland.
