The Buffalo Bills are also another franchise that only has six selections in the draft. Quarterback is a need and the defense needs to improve as well though the team hasn’t been rumored to trade down.
Here’s a look at the Bills draft.
First Round No.8: Matt Barkley, QB, USC
Last year Barkley got the chance to declare early and yet decided to stay at USC. That move didn’t go too well for him and his season got ended by an injury. Still he is arguably the best quarterback in the draft. In 2012 he threw for 3,273 yards, completed 63.6 percent of his passes, sacked only 14 times, a long of 83 and threw 36 touchdowns to 15 interceptions.
His 2011 season was better when he completed 69.1 percent of his passes, threw for 3,528 yards, had a long of 82, sacked eight times and threw 39 touchdown passes to seven interceptions.
Second Round No.41: Jonathan Jenkins, DT, Georgia
Defensively the Bills ranked among the bottom against the run and Jenkins definitely will make an impact. Last season for Georgia he recorded 50 tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack, a pass broken up and blocked a kick. In 2011 he was in on 28 tackles, six tackles for loss, three sacks, an interception and forced a fumble.
Third Round No.71: Vance McDonald, TE, Rice
With Barkley in competition for the starting role he’ll need a safety valve and McDonald will offer that. At Rice he caught 36 passes for 458 yards, averaged 12.8 yards per reception and caught two touchdown passes. During the 2010 season he caught eight touchdown passes.
Fourth Round No.105: Jonathan Bostic, ILB, Florida
Bostic had a very good season for Florida in 2012 registering 67 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, two interceptions including one returned for a touchdown and forced a fumble. 2011 was his best season when he went for 94 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, three sacks, two passes broken up and a forced fumble.
Fifth Round No.143: Earl Watford, G, James Madison
The Bills lost Andy Levitre to the Tennessee Titans and Watford who had an outstanding career at James Madison gets the chance to make his mark. Blocked well regardless of the team throwing or running the football.
Sixth Round No.177: Tony Jefferson, S, Oklahoma
With George Wilson leaving, the Bills need a replacement and Jefferson does have the ability to do that though there are questions about his work ethic. At Oklahoma in 2012 he recorded 119 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, a .5 sack, three passes broken up and two interceptions. Had a solid 2011 season with 74 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, three passes broken up, a fumble forced and four interceptions.
