ST LOUIS – After committing a comedy of errors in a 8-1 blowout loss, the St Louis Cardinals would tie the 2013 World Series at 1-1, with a 4-2 win, thanks to solid pitching and timely hitting.

Now at home, the Cardinals have a chance to take a two games to one lead with Joe Kelly facing off against Jake Peavy on the banks of the mighty Mississippi.

Kelly, 25, is 10-5 with an ERA of 2.69 and 79 strikeouts and 0-1 in the post-season with a 4.41 ERA for the Cardinals, Peavy acquired from the Chicago White Sox, had a record of 12-5, 121 strikeouts and a ERA of 4.17, and a post-season record of 0-1 with a 8.31 ERA and an opposing batting average of .294 in two games for Boston.

During the first two games of the Series, Boston pitching has an ERA of 2.0 and a strikeout-walks ratio of 16-4.

St Louis, 54-27 at Busch Stadium, has a chance to take a 2-1 thanks to playing under it’s 11 World series banners and the solid hitting Fall Classic debutant, Carlos Beltran and Matt Holiday.

Beltran, who had played the most games all-time without playing in the World Series, is batting .400 with two hits in five at-bats, one RBI and one strikeout.  Holiday is batting .375,with two runs scored, three hits, one home run, one RBI, eight total bases and three strikeouts.  Holiday also has a slugging percentage of 1.000 in eight at-bats.

If the Cards hope to continue their winning ways and seize control of this Series, then they will need a dominating effort from the starting pitching like in Game 2 and more consistent hitting from their lineup, which is currently batting .212

If St. Louis does indeed get these things, this writer will not be surprised to see the Cardinals seize both control of this Series, but raise their 12th banner as well.
