The Cleveland Browns will try to snag a QB with their first pick. Here is a mock draft showing who the Browns will pick.
1st round- 6th overall pick- Marcus Mariota– Quarterback- Oregon
Manziel is likely to be gone at this point. Mariota is taller and has great arm strength and accuracy as evidenced by the numbers (2,281 passing yards, 20 touchdowns) and game tape. If he is gone, then Teddy Bridgewater or Tajh Boyd could be available. This is where the Browns get their quarterback and learn from the 2012 draft.
1st round- 28th overall pick (from Indianapolis Colts) – Allen Robinson– Wide Receiver- Penn State
The Browns need a target for Mariota other than Josh Gordon and Jordan Cameron. There will be lots of debate here in the Browns draft room if Lache Seastrunk is available at running back. The Browns will go to the flashy receiver after much discussion. Robinson has 878 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns. Seastrunk is a possible alternative.
2nd round- De’ Anthony Thomas– Running Back- Oregon
The Browns might not draft Carlos Hyde later on. If that’s the case, look for the Browns to reunite the Ducks. Pairing up Thomas and Mariota can work to perfection. Seastrunk will likely be off the table. Thomas won’t blow you away with his rushing yards (369 yards) but he rushed for seven touchdowns and averages 7.1 yards per carry. The Browns will likely use him more than what the Ducks currently use him, so he is a lock for 1,000+ rushing yards and 7-12 rushing touchdowns.
3rd round- Anthony Steen– Offensive Guard- Alabama
The Browns should make an upgrade on the right side of the offensive line. Taking the beast out of Alabama would be that upgrade. He is a monster at 6’3, 309 pounds. Brandon Thomas, OG out of Clemson and Jon Halapio OG out of Florida are alternatives.
4th round- Justin Gilbert– Cornerback- Oklahoma State
Some projections have Gilbert being taken in the 2nd or 3rd round but there are several cornerbacks rated above him. N.F.L. executives will rant and rave about his size and speed. Gilbert has 4 interceptions so far this season, returning the last one for a touchdown against Iowa State. The Browns need a shutdown corner after making upgrades to the offense. Jaylen Watkins, CB out of Florida and Darqueze Dennard, CB out of Michigan State are possible alternatives.
