It would not be the 4th of July without one of the best American traditions, the hot dog eating contest. The contest has been a 4th of July tradition sense 1997 when they moved the date from Memorial Day to Independence Day.

The field of the 20 best competitive eaters in the world is made up of past champions, regional qualifiers, wildcards and special invitees. But this year all eyes will be on Joey Chestnut as he tries to make it 9 consecutive wins in the Nathans Hot Dog Eating Contest. Last year Chestnut ate a total of 61 hot dogs in 10 minutes to take home the championship. Chestnut also holds the world record for hot dogs eaten in 10 minutes with 69. It will be a big race as all 20 competitors fight for the big $40,000 grand prize.
