A very disappointing year for the BC Eagles going 3-9 and not winning a single ACC football game, Addazio and company need to improve on this year and show that their defense is truly a shutdown defense and to get that struggling offense back up to what it used to be. Here is some hopeful things that BC has to look forward to along with the 2016 schedule.
Transfer Quarterback Patrick Towles from the University of Kentucky has a big frame (6’5) and has physical tools to take a beating in the pocket and deliver rockets to the receivers on the outside. A two year starter at UK, Towles is a much needed transfer student to complement injured QB Darius Wade, who is looking to compete with Towles for the starting job. It is going to be a foot race between Towles and Wade but my assumption is that they will share reps through the season.
Defensive end Harold Landry had an lasting impact last year as he will enter his junior year with big expectations for the Eagles. The game that essentially put him on the map was against Florida State when he was destroying the Florida State offensive line and recorded 11 tackles. Watching that game made me say to myself that against arguably one of the toughest teams in the FBS, this kid has a lot of potential and can make an lasting impact for BC and he could see himself playing on Sundays someday if he lives up to the hype and expectations.
Cornerback John Johnson could be potentially playing the role of what Justin Simmons was last year (Simmons was last pick of 3rd round of this year’s draft to Broncos). This year as a senior, Johnson can be the game changer in that deep secondary but the loss of Simmons will hurt.
Some other players that can make an immediate impact are senior running back Tyler Rouse, Jon Hilliman, WR Elijiah Robinson, DE Wyatt Ray, DE/LB Connor Strachan are just some returning players that bring experience and versatility.
