Dallas Cowboys
Traded for WR Amari Cooper in exchange for 2019 1st Rd Pick
The Dallas Cowboys had the right intentions with their move. Jerry Jones made it clear that they would’ve drafted a wide receiver in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft anyway, so why wait? Why not get a young wideout that already has NFL experience. You don’t have to develop him, you just plug him into the offense and play!
Great strategy! Unfortunately, Amari Cooper’s value does not equal a first-round pick. The benefit of trading for a veteran is because you know what you get from them already since they have been in the league. But haven’t the Cowboys recognized that Cooper has regressed since his second year?
First-round picks are supposed to be game-changers. Even a second-rounder for Cooper could’ve been a bit pricey, but the Cowboys didn’t want to get into any bidding wars. They gave up a first-rounder, and the Oakland Raiders didn’t hesitate to accept the deal. Are the Cowboys a better team? Yes. Does Cooper make them Super Bowl contenders? Probably not.
