On January 11th 2012 Boise State University, Washington State University, and the University of California Berkeley were the three collegiate schools who offered a full scholarship to 18yr old, 175 pound Quarterback Jared Goff from Navato California, a small suburban town which is located on the outskirts of San Francisco California.
Jared Goff attended Marin Catholic High School in Kentfield California. Where he was an athletic High School football superstar. Jared’s athletic abilities however were not only towards football. Jared also participated 30 games in High school basketball and participated in High school baseball with a batting average of .245.
But of course when it came to High School football, stats and games played are no match for numbers. On March 16th 2012, number 16 Jared Goff chose to go with the University of California Berkeley. Where there he had a phenomenal three year run, progressing from his rookie year with a 123.4 quarterback rating, sophomore year 146.7 rating and junior year 161.2 rating.
His 3 year run consisted of 12,195 passing yards, 96 touchdowns and 144.0 overall passer rating. Jared Goff finished his college career in the Armed Forces bowl by surpassing Aaron Rodgers single game passing yards in a bowl game and surpassing Marcus Mariota’s single season record for most touchdown yards and passes within the Pac 12 division.
Goff as we all know entered the draft after his Junior year where he was selected 1st overall. Now we fast forward to this Sunday, November 20th 2016 which will be a day that number 16 will never forget and a day that number 16 has been looking for since he was recruited back in March 16th 2012 from the University of California Berkeley.
16 might be a new number of great significance, but there are a number of skeptics out there as well. I am one, I will admit…but within these past 4 years he has had an excellent football career, and many skeptics including myself must respect those impressive numbers but believe and hope in only the number 16.
