A Perfect storm tonight in Las Vegas

With a game so big as tonight’s game I had decided to forgo medication and pull my right arm out of it’s sling. The clash of Boise State and UNLV is a pre-tourney game none of us would have for seen at the start of this season.

Over the last 5 -6 years I will admit I haven’t been that much of a Basketball fan. When I had the opportunity to see this young group of up and coming Bronco’s coming into East Lansing undefeated going up against Izzo and company I had to go. Oh boy am I glad I did, the fight they put up at the Breslin Center on Nov 20th got me excited about the game for the first time in years.

Watching this team from afar I’m grateful for Bronco vision I have watched or listen to just about every game this season. I’ve watch more games this year then the last 4 regular seasons combined.

Tonight the stage is set for the two teams both coming into the game on winning streaks UNLV has won their last 4 games beating SDSU and CSU by 2 at home then laying waste to both Wyoming and Nevada on the road. Coming home they must know that tonight’s game will greatly impact MWC tournament seeding, with Fresno State being their final game one of which they should easily win at home, puts more pressure on Boise State, CSU and SDSU to win out as CSU is tied with them for second in the conference with the teams splitting head to head games. Boise State and SDSU sit a game back needing to win out.

For Boise State a win tonight will be a major boost of confidence beating a quality team on the road in a hostile environment something they have only done once this year in beating then 11th rank Creighton convincingly 83-70 only to see Creighton drop 6 conference games and almost fall off the earth until they picked up a big win against Wichita State. No doubt the Broncos have the harder road to improve their conference finish and a win tonight setups the home game against SDSU to finish the season Saturday as a monster game that could decide whether Boise State finishs the lone 4th seed  or maybe even  if the cards all fall right 3rd seed.

Considering the Night Marks had against CSU to expect that level of scoring two games in a row against top competition on the road is just unrealistic, but certainly when it’s needed Marks can take over any game. The big men however are going to need to continue the quality of play they displayed against CSU and Marks, Drmic, Thomson and Elorriaga are going to not only play major minutes but fill the lanes and be active on the offensive boards , as well cover the kick out 3 point shooter to beat UNLV at home. This could possibly be one of those games for the ages , it could prove to be one of those games where a new beginning of sorts takes place, going to the next level a level that says we can beat anyone anywhere anytime. One of those games the Football team has built it’s reputation only difference is it’s an in conference game which is only made larger because as of now the RPI has the mountain west rated the best conference in all of college basketball. This become all the more important not just for better seeding in the conference tourney which greatly improves the chances of going deep into the conference tournament the goal should be to the conference championship game. Win out make it to the final conference game and we will see the team going from being a sure fire bubble team to a 6 or 7 seed. Any seeding higher than 7 assures a second game match up against a #1 seed early where a 7th seed makes sure the only way we see the #1 seed is in the sweat 16.

A win tonight will put a stamp on this team and will be a shot herd around the NCAA Men’s basketball world and the sooner that happens the sooner those who will be huddling in a smoke filled room deciding the feat and placement in the big dance have Boise State in their head!
