The San Francisco 49ers sit on a 1-6 record to start 2016—just don’t tell linebacker Aaron Lynch.
Despite a 34-17 bombing at the hands of the 3-3 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Lynch wasn’t shy about his assesment of his 49ers.
Just delusional, per Jennifer Lee Chan of Niners Nation:
We have the team. We possibly have one of the best teams in the NFL. Easily. Hands down. We just need to know how to keep finishing games and work together throughout the whole game. Once we get that down, nobody’s going to able to mess with us.
Yeah. We show it in the beginning of games. We just need to come out and finish the games. We have easily the best team in our conference, for sure, hands down. I’m not even going to think twice about that. I know we have the best team. We just have to come together and as one unit and once we do that we’ll be fine.
The world had a field day with the comments:
Did Aaron Lynch just call the #49ers one of the best" teams in the #NFL? pic.twitter.com/rIrzaZfj59

I respectfully disagree with Aaron Lynch's assessment of the 49ers: https://t.co/1RzbyLSaX1

The 49ers have lost six games in a row, only one of those within a seven-point margin. For fun, the outcomes: 46-27, 37-18, 24-17, 33-21, 45-16, 34-17. Over that span, the coaching staff has switched from Blaine Gabbert to Colin Kaepernick under center, which is about as thrilling as it sounds, and people have put head coach Chip Kelly on blast in epic fashion.
It’s good for a player to have confidence in his team. Maybe Lynch is right—when the 49ers finally get it together, opposing teams will stop messing with them.
Or something like that.
