Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher A.J. Burnett earned an impressive career achievement tonight in a 5-0 shutout win over the St. Louis Cardinals.
His second strikeout of the day was No. 2,000 for his career and it also came in the second inning against outfielder Carlos Beltran.
It was the first win for Burnett in the 2013 season, he also struck out eight over seven innings and didn’t give up a hit until the seventh inning, which got broken up by Beltran.
The Pirates bullpen, finished it off. Offensively, Andrew McCutchen went 2 for 4, scored two runs scored. Neil Walker, Gaby Sanchez, Travis Snider, Alex Pressley and Pedro Alvarez each drove in a run.
A four-game series will start tomorrow night against the Atlanta Braves.
