While the Boise State Broncos prepare for the Arizona Wildcats in this year’s Fiesta Bowl, Albertsons Stadium will be hosting the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. The game will pit the 8-4 Western Michigan Broncos versus the 9-3 Air Force Falcons in the seventeenth edition of the bowl.
Since 2011, the Idaho Potato Commission has sponsored the bowl, labelling it the Famous Idaho Bowl. For the past two years it has been a meeting between a Mountain West Conference team against a Mid-American Conference opponent. That is how we have Air Force from the Mountain West going up against Western Michigan from the MAC.
Boise State actually participated in this bowl back in 2005 when it was the MPC Computers Bowl. It was played at Bronco Stadium (it had yet to be named Albertsons) and the Broncos fell to Boston College 27-21. Boise State had won the very same bowl game in the years 1999, 2000, and 2002.
This year’s edition is one of the cheapest bowl games when it comes to tickets on the secondary market, according to TiqIQ.com. The average ticket price is currently $14 on the secondary market with the cheapest tickets starting at only five bucks.
Falcons and Broncos fans will find Boise hotels and flights to be a little pricier than tickets to the game. According to Hipmunk, the cheapest hotel rates in Boise start at $64. Flights to Boise are pretty reasonable at Hipmunk as well, but there is no direct flight from neither Colorado Springs nor from Kalamazoo into Boise so the connecting flights cost typically greater than $1,000 for most flights. Nonetheless, fans do know that they will pay a pittance to get into the stadium, so they can afford a little extra spend on travel.
For Boise State fans wanting to find a little college football action before they take on the Wildcats in the Fiesta Bowl, the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl is the way to go. The game is at Boise and will have two competitive schools looking to take home a bowl victory.
