I saw energetic industry from the Revolution in the second half. I’ll admit, I missed the first half packing for a road trip (check my tweets @RKSwan if you’re curious about the traveling). From what I saw when I peeked at Twitter, I didn’t miss much by missing the first half. In the end the Revs broke their 4 game losing streak but left disappointed.
For stretches of the second half Toronto couldn’t hold the ball past midfield. They did create some chances. Alan Gordon stared down the right goal post after just missing wide off a corner. I wouldn’t say that Toronto looked a better team than New England, though two consecutive road ties in four days is a tidy trip across a continent. Toronto defended well enough to earn the tie.
New England did not do enough to win this game. They played with energy. Mansally, who paired with Lekic at forward, was full of runs, hold up play, and pressure on the TFC defense. Nyassi came in and also showed his speed and fancy feet. When I consider the offense’s performance in the Red Bull game and this one, I think the Revs are possessing the ball and creating chances. That is an improvement. We still cannot score. Without goals we will not win games.
Next up, Chicago visits New England Saturday night. The Revs arguably dropped two more points last night, taking a single point for the tie. To earn at least four points from this week the Revs will have to beat the Fire. They will bring their undefeated streak to Gillette looking to turn their win in Columbus into a two away-game winning streak. The Revs will look to simply break through.
