Are the Dolphins headed for divorce with Reshad Jones?

Baltimore 351

The Miami Dolphins offseason continues to head at a rapid pace with minicamp around the corner and no sign of their safety Reshad Jones.

As it stands currently, with the recent report in ProFootball Talk, Jones is poised to sit out the entire season if his deal, with two years remaining cannot be reworked.

Jones is owed 7 million plus the next to seasons and if he sit outs out the season he could forfeit 950,000 dollar signing bonus per the report.

The report became news today after Omar Kelly of the Sun-Sentinel posted on the site that Jones might sit out the year and that the recent signing of Isa Abdul-Quddus would make the perfect “complement” with Jones should be come back to the Dolphins.

However, the bigger question for the Dolphins and their fans is does Reshad Jones really want a bump in pay or be paid and seen as the focus of the franchise like Ndamukong Suh and Cameron Wake have been.

Is it possible that after a season amassing 135 tackles and putting his body on the line, Jones feels he should get his money in the way of a new contract because he’s owed that by the Dolphins?

What’s more, is the Dolphins simply have the cap room to do so, but are choosing to stand pat and see who blinks first. In this game of chicken, Jones has risen to the top of the depth chart as a former 5th round pick and made the Pro Bowl for the first time in 2015.

However, Jones was not the initial selection prompting many to witness his crybaby efforts to lobby for an alternate spot on the Pro Bowl roster as he felt snubbed and showed public he was ungrateful for being snubbed.

At this point, the Miami Dolphins will continue to move their offseason from stadium renovation mode to making sure they have a superior product on the field for their fans to enjoy and revel in excitement.

Will VP Mike Tannenbaum make the same mistake he did early in his career as GM of the Jets as he made with Revis?

For the Dolphins fans, they are caught in the middle and they may have to choose which defensive player to support and it just might not be Reshad Jones in the near future.
