Big East men’s basketball media day’s focus is on conference realignment and football

NEW YORK — When it comes to conference realignment, basketball has gotten lost in the shuffle. Consequently, so has the Big East.

While Marniatto would not confirm or deny which schools are in the conference’s future plans, the speculation is that SMU, Houston and Central Florida are top candidates to add for all sports, while Navy, Air Force and Boise State could be added as football only schools.

Being able to add Boise State is a major factor in the conference keeping their automatic BCS bid when the conference’s contract expires in 2013.

The Broncos have become regular BCS party crashers as an at-large mid-major and are on track to do so again this season. Bosie’s addition could beef up football’s credibility enough to keep the BCS happy.

But today was about basketball, even if it was about conference realignment, right? Well not really.

Boise State football team bracing for Air Force’s option offense

But Boise State coachChris Petersensaid the Falcons will present as big a challenge as his defense has faced all season when the Mountain West teams meet Saturday at Bronco Stadium.

That’s because the Broncos rarely play against a triple-option offense.

“It will be as big a challenge, without question, as we’ve seen this year,” Petersen told the Idaho Statesman in Boise. “It’s completely, totally unique and different, but every bit as big.”

The fifth-ranked Broncos (6-0, 1-0 Mountain West) haven’t played a team using a similar offense since playing Rice nearly a decade ago.

The Big East plans to invite Boise State, Navy and Air Force as football only members, and SMU, UCF and Houston as full members. Is the Big East targeting the right schools for its expansion plans?

9. Boise State – 33,269

Boise State doesn’t bring much of a TV market, but the Broncos would bring a great football program and they are currently undefeated at 6-0 and ranked fifth in the country. Logistics wouldn’t be great, but everything else would be with Bosie State. Their attendance was 73rd in college football. They sell out every game, but their stadium is small but is expected to to be expanded to over 50,000 by 2013.

Idaho death row inmate given execution date

BOISE, Idaho (AP) – Convicted killer Paul Ezra Rhoades has been moved to an isolation cell at the Idaho Maximum Security Institution south of Boise after a judge scheduled his execution for Nov. 18.

Rhodes would be the first person put to death in Idaho since 1994 and the state’s second execution since 1957.

He was convicted of killing three people in Idaho Falls and Blackfoot in 1988.

Rhoades has filed a federal lawsuit against the state, saying Idaho’s method of lethal injection amounts to cruel and unusual punishment and that problems with the lethal injection system would render his execution unconstitutional. The state has asked the federal court to throw out that lawsuit.

His attorney, Oliver Loewy, did not immediately return a phone call from The Associated Press.

The hypocrisy of brutal killers and rapist such as rhoades defies belief, of all things he should feel grateful for the protection the state from the very beginning he was afforded from the public as it was there were real efforts by the local populous to get their hands on him and rip him to shreds.

I cannot possibly express my joy in learning this scum is finally going to be removed from the face of this planet. As someone who lived near the area these horrible senseless acts committed by this scum, I cannot possible express the terror the folks of western Idaho felt until incredible great work done by the law enforcement investigators of Idaho Falls to quickly uncover who the perp was and his quick capture. It is very unfortunate this scum has been allowed to live as long as he has.

My heart still goes out to the family whose lives were destroyed by this worthless piece of human debris. From the 18 year old clerk in Fort Hall to the 7/11 clerk in IF to the mother and teacher ripped from the parking lot of a grocery store in IF, I can only hope that the punishment awaiting this scum upon his death will be eternal.
