After Penn State’s Nightmare of News, The Boise State Broncos are STILL America’s Team. Here’s why.

The 1-point loss by the Boise State Broncos to the TCU Horned Frogs was a difficult end-of-game to watch.

The field goal was a reoccurring nightmare to many people.

But not to me.

In fact, the team’s exemplary playing at home for YEARS has been something about which I am extremely proud.

A streak was broken, for sure. A new streak starts next week.

And just HOW the Bronco players handled the razor-thin loss shows more deeply how the Boise State Broncos REALLY are America’s team. From Kellen Moore to Coach Pete, the post-game words were gracious and specific. The FG was  “just a play, like so many others during the game”.

Coach Pete has said it before: “No one man loses a football game”.

My addendum to that is: Each specific player and coach makes a football program a success.

And Boise State is one of THE most successful football programs in the country.

Kellen Moore is the finest quarterback in college history because Coach Pete is the finest Head Coach in the United States, today. And Coach Pete’s coaching staff is comprised of tremendous men of integrity.

None of us is sure of the Bowl opportunity or the Heisman chances. What ALL of us issure of, is that Boise State Football produces some of the finest men in college athletics – both players and coaching staff.

After this past week of Penn State’s nightmarish news, isn’t that REALLY what we are hoping for?

The scene was eerily similar to the loss last year at the hands of the University of Nevada-Reno Wolfpack. You could almost feel the nostalgia in the air at Bronco stadium, could this really happen again?

While I agree with Ty that history does have a way of repeating it’s self, I would like to make a large view of history and how it changes while maintaining a cycle.

In 2008 Boise State went undefeated and was denied a BCS Bowl because a Utah team that beat a Michigan team that went 3-9 because of a missed field goal was ranked ahead of Boise State. No one thought BCS would ever have two non AQ teams in the BCS series and in 2008 that appeared to be true.

Then came 2009 and this time you had a higher Ranked  undefeated TCU team of which many thought should be in the Championship game including this writer, and again hopes were dashed that Boise State would get in to the BCS bowls, but this time things changed and with the last pick the Fiesta bowl did the right thing in choosing Boise State now many of complained that the two non AQ teams were matched up against each other  let alone it was going to be a rematch of the Poinsettia bowl from the year pervious, but in the end it proved to both fan bases to be an exciting match up and certainly the Boise Fans showed up for the game in droves.

Then came the Nevada game last year and with one loss it was just unthinkable that a non AQ team could make a BCS bowl even to a top 15 team on the road in a game that went to overtime, let alone a team that’s final BCS ranking that was in the top 10. No one and I mean no one including Brent Musburger nor Kirk Herbstreit thought it was fair that the Broncos were playing a late December game instead of New year’s day game.

So here we find ourselves again one loss in the top 10 a team we beat to open the season is looking to crash the SEC party and could very well win its way with two losses to a BCS game, while we wear that hard loss to a quality team that beat the best the B1G had to offer last year in the Rose Bowl a team that is on to the Big 12 next year and will no longer have to worry about having one bad game and not getting a shot at the big bowls. We sit here listening to everyone tell us how history has repeated it’s self how we don’t have a shot how others will look to keep us out how we are looking at another Vegas bowl.

I agree history is repeating its self but not the kind of history everyone else is talking about I’m talking about the history of change, the history of acceptance the history of growth in perception. I believe the history of 08 and 09 is taking place that 10 and 11 are going to repeat the growth of our circumstances that this is the year a non AQ gets a BCS Bowl with one loss. I believe American not only wants to see Boise State play the #3 team in the land in the Sugar bowl , but they will tune every TV set in America to see the match up. I believe Boise State is headed for the Sugar to play the second place finisher in the SEC who every that maybe, I believe America will demand it, who wouldn’t want to see that game? The haters will tune in in hopes Boise gets destroy so they can proudly proclaim the internet over that Boise is over rated, the rest of us will tune in because we believe what Boise State has built is not only real but substantial and up to any challenge, I won’t guaranty a win but I will certainly guaranty the game will be thrilling and not over until the clock strikes 00.00

BCS chaos has potential

Last week, the BCS sent a clear message to Boise State with it’s rankings by dropping one loss Alabama to third and keeping the Broncos at fifth. This week the BCS sent it’s gratitude’s to TCU for beating Boise State by ranking the Horned Frogs nineteenth in the country ahead of Penn State and Texas.

Boise State is still in the top ten, but it’s unlikely that the BCS would allow a Boise State team that wont win their conference in one of their bowls as an at large.

BYU is on verge of joining Big East for football only

Provo • Still recovering from the departure of longtime conference rival Utah to the Pac-12 conference, Brigham Young University football coach Bronco Mendenhall said last week that BYU and national power Boise State should be in the same league together moving forward as “natural rivals” in the Intermountain West.

Indications are strong that Mendenhall’s wish is about to come true.

The Salt Lake Tribune learned Tuesday and first reported on its website that BYU is close to joining the Big East Conference as a football-only member — perhaps within the next day or two — and that Boise State will join as well upon being assured of at least one western partner in the far-flung league.

It is unclear whether the moves would take place next year, in 2013, or even 2014.

It’s clear to me Boise State is not going to make the move to the Big East without Air force and BYU it’s also clear Air Force feels the same so BYU is the hinge that will make this work. I believe however do to the potential of a BCS bowl for Boise State Boise will not be making anything official until after Bowl announcements, and the reasons are simple if we fail to get a BCS bid we will leave a.s.a.p if we do get a BCS bowl it will be one more year in the MWC of which I’m perfectly fine with, it’s all about the Benjamin’s if we get a BCS bowl it will cost us 21 million to leave the MWC if we don’t 5 million which would be more than made up for by moving to the Big East now instead of 2013.

Ronnie Hillman questionable for Boise State game

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, San Diego State running back Ronnie Hillman is questionable for the BSU gameSaturday due to injury.  Hillman suffered a high-ankle sprain in the win over Colorado State this past weekend.

With all of our injury issues this would certainly take some pressure off Iloka and allow him to give more support to the CB’s. But my money is he’ll be playing.
