The Way We See It: Broncos: Bleed blue, cry blue, get over it

This isn’t how things were supposed to be. This isn’t our perfectly scripted, Disney feel-good story. They didn’t just miss that kick. This did not just happen.
Many Boise State fans are still reeling in total disbelief of the idea that their beloved Broncos won’t be playing in a BCS bowl game come January. Unfortunately for some of those so-called “Bronconationers,” this becomes an opportunity to find a scapegoat and place the blame on student athletes who deserve nothing but support.
This was a team loss–it didn’t come down to a single play, it wasn’t a bad coaching call. Things just didn’t go the team’s way. They had injuries to the defensive secondary and their star running back. Coach Chris Petersen was forced to use young, inexperienced players who haven’t had enough time in the system to become sound playmakers.
Excuses can be found anywhere though, simply put—this is football. Losing games is something 98 percent of college campuses and communities deal with on a yearly basis. It takes a whole lot of luck to complete a perfect season: luck with plays, luck with staying healthy and luck with calls. Even some of the best teams to ever play college football haven’t finished their seasons undefeated.
However, this loss will separate the true Bronco football fans from those who simply follow the team because they’re winning. Those who’ve been through the pre-Kellen days, the pre-Zabransky days and so on–these will be the fans who stick it out, because they realize what many seem to take for granted–we, as football fans, have been privileged.

Boise State freshman DB a quick study

Boise State true freshman Lee Hightower’s teammates say he’s fearless.
And he’s needed every bit of that quality this year.
In February, he disappointed his mother by opting to play football at Boise State rather than pursue an Ivy League education.
In October, coaches decided to pull his redshirt and started him on the kickoff team.
Last Saturday, he played cornerback nearly throughout the Broncos’ loss to TCU — downing a punt inside the 1-yard line, grabbing an interception and allowing a 69-yard touchdown pass.
And this Saturday, he’ll make his first start on defense at San Diego State (6:02 p.m. MST, CBS Sports Network).

Lee is impressive but I will be watching Que Ewing more closely to see if he’s taken his learns for the TCU game, Que has shown us he certainly has a heavy hit and can tackle a RB one on one bring them to the ground what we need to see from him now is growth in technique in playing the man, not that I don’t want him to give up on making big plays reading just a little more playing the man will do for me.
CSU eye on: TCU Horned Frogs

CSU at Texas Christian, Saturday, 1:30 p.m., Versus
For the record:TCU is 8-2 overall and 5-0 in the Mountain West. The 19th-ranked Horned Frogs lead the conference after winning a 36-35 thriller at Boise State. This is their last football season in the Mountain West. They join the Big 12 next summer.
Streaking:Colorado State has lost seven consecutive games to the Horned Frogs. CSU hasn’t beaten TCU since a 42-21 victory in Fort Collins in 1998. TCU leads the series 7-1.
Who’s hot:Sophomore quarterback Casey Pachall completed 24-of-37 passes for 473 yards and five touchdowns against Boise State. Pachall has passed for 2,413 yards and 24 touchdowns this season. He has thrown only six interceptions.
Who’s not:TCU ranks just 75th among 120 major-college teams in pass defense, allowing 234.7 yards per game in the air.
Key stat:The Horned Frogs rank 10th nationally in scoring, averaging 41 points. TCU has been held under 30 points only once.
FYI:TCU has a blossoming star in 6-foot-2, 265-pound sophomore defensive end Stansly Maponga (6 1/2 sacks). . . .The Frogsrank third nationally in kickoff returns, averaging 27.2 yards.
A loss by TCU would be very helpful as it would be just devistating to see TCU go with two losses into a BCS as a 16th ranked team while we would get passed over as a #8 or 9 ranked team.
BYU Football: Mendenhall speaks favorably about proposed Big East move

PROVO – Brigham Young University football coach Bronco Mendenhall spoke positively Wednesday night about the possibility of BYU joining the Big East Conference as a football-only member, saying “it would make a lot of sense” for that to happen.
During his weekly coaches show radio broadcast, Mendenhall confirmed a Salt Lake Tribune report on Tuesday that BYU has an invitation to join the Big East as part of its proposed western division and that the primary appeal the conference offers is its automatic-qualifying status into the Bowl Championship Series (BCS).
“One of the appeals to join any conference, if we were to join a conference, is that it would give you access to the top tier of bowl games, without having to be undefeated, as the conference champion,” Mendenhall said.
Boise State could certainly make an announcement next week to go along with BYU, while saying 2013 now, and if we are passed over for a BCS bowl change that later to 2012.
