Coaches Poll observation

Around the Blue Turf 9/26/2011

Much is being made over Stanfords jump in the coaches poll over Boise State, fear not Bronco Nation for not only did Stanford collect more points but so did our Bronco’s.

Week 4

RK TEAM RECORD PTS
1 Oklahoma (50) 2-0 1463
2 Alabama (4) 3-0 1402
3 LSU (5) 3-0 1373
4 Boise State 2-0 1212
5 Stanford 3-0

1208

Week 5

1 Oklahoma (32) 3-0 1434
2 Alabama (7) 4-0 1404
2 LSU (20) 4-0 1404
4 Stanford 3-0 1225
5 Boise State 3-0 1223

As you can see the shake up is more about lost confednece in OU then folks having any second thoughts about Boise State. As OU lost 29 points with most of those going to LSU, and Bama losst 2 points. The winners in the polls were Boise State LSU and Stanford who all gained ground on OSU and Bama this week. I’m not going to sweet nor make a big deal out of Stanford picking up 6 more of those points shedded from the top 2 as everyone else is when clearly Boise closed the gap on the top two possition of the coaches poll, in the end 4 and 5 are basicaly the same on the out side looking in it’s 1 and 2 we are shooting for.

College Football Rankings Week 5: 5 Teams Bound To Rise In the Top 25

5. Boise State Broncos

The consensus pick to be a BCS-buster year in and year out, the Boise State Broncos are the definition of perfection on the football field.

The only thing that has held them out of the top 2 rankings is that they are NOT from a BCS conference.

Voters hold that against them on a yearly basis as they are constantly denied a shot at the BCS National Championship.

They have gone undefeated the past few seasons, but to no avail.  They have beaten anyone, anywhere.  They still get shut out of the title game, only to find consolation in other BCS bowl games, such as the Fiesta Bowl.

Boise State’s QB Kellen Moore is hoping that this is their year.

If they go out and destroy their opponents on a weekly basis, they will finally get their shot to prove that they are indeed among college football’s best teams.

Boise State will also get to prove, it doesn’t matter that they aren’t from a power conference to get to the top of the mountain.

Boise State Still Has Work to Do, Says Petersen

Although head coach Chris Petersen was not very happy following No. 4 Boise State’s 41-21 win over Tulsa on Saturday night, the Broncos are doing many of the little things right even if it’s not perfect.

“I thought there were some really nice plays made in all three phases but I thought it was a lot of sloppy football,” said the coach.

“That’s good, that’s what we hope to do, certainly,” said quarterback Kellen Moore. “I think it helps when you’re not in third-and-extremely long, putting yourself in bad spots, but it’s good, keeps the drives moving and gives you more opportunities.”

“There’s no doubt you want to be good on third down, and certainly if you’re going to go for it on fourth down you better make it,” Petersen said. “That was pleasing that we were able to get a few of those things done. Those are big plays.”

“We had a good emphasis this week on third downs,” said wide receiver Tyler Shoemaker. “We got in to some fourth down situations that were kind of hit-or-miss, but we were able to execute and make plays.”

“Field position’s been really big in all of our games so far,” Petersen said.

“Turnovers are huge, that’s something we always obviously talk about, turnover differential,” Moore said of winning the turnover battle four to one.. “Those are big things when we’re not turning the ball over and we’re getting turnovers and sets us up with good field position.”

“You always come away thinking about those three, four, or five things you would like to have back and get better at those and learn from them and hopefully improve for next week.”

Added Petersen: “There’s no question we’ve got a long way to go and we better get there in a hurry or that will catch us.”

Magicvalley

Expectations have grown rapidly here on the Blue Truff no longer is it considered good enough to go out and put 34-0 on your oponent by the 8 minutes to go in the 3rd qt, and only win 41-21 with many second and 3rd stringers playing out the rest of the game. We all know this team can play better, and this must have the rest of the MWC teams huddled in fear when Boise game week is upon them.

SEC fans are running a moch on both my ProphetofDP and theblueturfdotcom you tube acocunts, it would appear dawg fans have gotten their second wind and now blieve our victory over them was a fluke, the glad handing of the sec fan base will being meeting with a response for their ignorance soon!
