Last night Oakland Athletics outfielder Yoenis Cespedes left the game in the 11th inning due to an injury suffered on a stolen base attempt in the eighth.
It has been revealed that he suffered a strained muscle in his left hand and today got placed on the 15-day disabled list. The good news was the MRI showed no structural damage and the x-rays were negative. In 11 games this season he’s hit .200 with a double, three home runs and seven rbi.
Coco Crisp also left last night’s game with a strained left groin, while he’s not in the lineup today for the A’s he should play on Sunday.
With Cespedes sidelined Oakland called up outfielder Michael Taylor from Triple A Sacramento. He’s played in nine games, has hit .410 with five doubles, three home runs and 11 rbi. He will get the opportunity at either designated hitter or left field along with Chris Young and Seth Smith.
The reason Taylor got brought up over Shane Peterson is that there was no guarantee of playing time, so it was better for him to get at-bats in Sacramento. Also, once Cespedes gets reinstated from the disabled list Taylor is getting sent back down.
