Austin Receives 2nd Round Tender

Austin Receives 2nd Round TenderOk, here we go, hot off the presses, the Cowboys have announced they have tendered several players with 2nd round tenders, the most notable is that of WR Miles Austin. With Austin receiving just a 2nd round tender, it could be very tempting for a team to make a move and snatch him up. Of course the Cowboys could counter, or let him go and take the draft pick.

Will the Dolphins be on the phone making a deal for Austin? Should we have tendered him higher? We’ll see what happens.

Here’s what the DMN Blog has on the restricted FA tenders:

The Cowboys put the second-round tender on four of their five restricted free agents Wednesday, which will cost $1.545 million per player.

Wide receivers Miles Austin and Sam Hurd, guard Cory Procter and defensive end Stephen Bowen were tendered offers, while the Cowboys chose not to send tight end Tony Curtis a contract, making him a free agent.

Whil Austin, Hurd, Procter and Bowen can still receive offers from teams that team must be willing to give up a second round pick as compensation, unless a side deal can be reached.

For essentially $500,000 apiece, the Cowboys made sure they had the hammer in keeping those players. The low tender is $1.01 million and because none of those players were drafted the Cowboys would not have received any compensation. (DMN Blog)
