DENVER — Thursday night, the defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens were embarrassed by Peyton Manning and his Denver Broncos, losing 49-27.
The Ravens not only lost, but lose one of their key players in wide receiver and return man Jacoby Jones. Jones was injured fielding a punt when his own teammate, rookie Brynded Trawick, ran into Jones causing him to sprain his MCL. Jones is expected to be out for four to six weeks with the sprain.
With Super Bowl MVP quarterback Joe Flacco now without one of his top targets who will step up?
I believe the Ravens will be calling on wide receiver Torrey Smith to carry more of the receiving load than he already was with the departure of Anquan Boldin to the 49ers; the Ravens also will call on veteran tight end Dallas Clark to take the load off Smith.
Though expectations were not as high for the Ravens this season, but with the loss of Jones will cause the defending champs to struggle even more, and in my opinion, miss the playoffs all together.
