Barron Looking More Like Cowboys Pick at 14

The NFL Draft is just days away, and the Cowboys are narrowing down their options; however, several signs are pointing to Alabama safety Mark Barron being the pick. The Cowboys plan on using the pick on Barron if he’s there at #14, but there’s conversations going on about possibly moving up a slot or two to ensure the pick is theirs, but this isn’t something they will likely do. From what I’m being told, the Cowboys see the impact level of Barron being similar to that of last year’s pick in Tyron Smith, someone you can plug in and start immediately.

All the interviews and recent private workouts have cemented Barron’s stock with the Cowboys, Rob Ryan is described as being enamored with Barron, and really covets him to help bolster his secondary, he loves his size, swagger, and leadership. Garrett knows everything that needs to be known about Barron, plus he’s high on Saban’s program, and these all point to Barron being the pick. Barron would likely be starting at safety immediately, to get him ready for the middle part of the Cowboys schedule which will really be a test for a newly revamped Cowboys secondary.

I’m still hearing that if Barron is gone, the Cowboys will in fact trade down a few times and stock pile picks for later rounds. Peter Konz is the favorite for an offensive lineman at the bottom of the first, and running back is being talked about a lot right now, expect an additional back to be drafted between the 3rd and 4th round; however Doug Martin is very much on the Cowboys radar.

The Cowboys had a pretty good amount of defensive backs come in for pre-draft visits, so if Barron is the first pick, don’t be surprised to see Cowboys add a few more defensive backs in other rounds.
