Rumors have circled around about possible trades the Celtics could make with their number one pick before the draft. These rumors come about every year involving whatever team has the rights to the first pick. It looks like this year the rumors are true.
Earlier tonight it was leaked that the Celtics have reportedly agreed to a deal with Philadelphia involving said pick. According most recent reports, Philadelphia would receive Bostons number one pick in exchange for their third overall pick. The Celtics would also receive a first round pick from the Sixers via Los Angeles for 2018, as well as a 2019 first round pick via Sacramento. The deal is set to be finalized on Monday.
Philadelphia’s intentions are clear here, they’re going after Markelle Fultz. Fultz worked out for the team earlier tonight, reportedly putting on a poor shooting performance. Boston fans shouldn’t be too worried about missing out on Fultz, as the draft is filled with other guards that show great potential, such as Lonzo Ball and De’Aaron Fox. And in case people forgot, the Celtics already have SIX guards!
The Sixers have their “Process”, but Boston has Danny Ainge, and “In Ainge We Trust” right? A 53-29, Eastern Conference finals team with a top three pick: who needs the number one pick when you already have so much? Don’t forget who was drafted at number three last year (Jaylen Brown). Boston has a plethora of young talent stashed away already (read more in my last article, Celtics Summer League Schedule Released). With all they have now in mind, take a look at what they’ll be adding in the next few years.
2017 PHI 1st; 2018 BOS 1st; 2018 LAL 1st; 2018 BKN 1st; 2019 BOS 1st; 2019 LAC 1st; 2019 SAC 1st; 2019 MEM 1st
Keep in mind these are just the first round picks, eight first round picks in three years! Can you say “Free Agent destination”? The Sixers can keep their “Process”, I’m going to sit back and watch the show Danny Ainge and Brad Stevens are going to be putting on in the coming weeks. Get excited Boston fans, the next few years are gonna be fun.
