Broncos can extend impressive streak against Drew Brees

AFC Championship - New England Patriots v Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos will put an impressive streak against opposing quarterbacks on the line when facing off with Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints in Week 10.

According to the NFL’s Media Research, the Broncos have not allowed a passer rating over 100.0 to an opposing quarterback in 34 straight games—the longest such streak by one team in over 25 years.

The last quarterback to post a passer rating over 100.0 against the Broncos was Ryan Tannehill in late November of 2014.

Brees will have a chance to snap the streak on Sunday.

Through nine weeks, Brees has the NFL’s third highest passer rating at 106.7. He’s posted a passer rating over 100.0 in five of eight games, including each of the last four weeks.

Brees understands the massive test facing the Saints.

“It’s a tremendous challenge,” said Brees, via ESPN. “They’re defending Super Bowl champs for a reason. It’s because there’s really not a weak link on that defense. From their front four or really front five rushers to their linebacker corps to their secondary. It’s top notch. All those guys are playmakers. They fly around, they get after you. So we’re gonna need a great game of execution in all phases in order for us to be successful.”

The Broncos have the No. 1 passing defense in 2016. Opposing quarterbacks have thrown six touchdowns and eight interceptions, with a combined passer rating of 67.2, against Denver this season.

But the Broncos also understand the challenge of Brees, who commands the league’s top passing offense.

“We’ve faced a lot of good quarterbacks, and this one’s got to be on top of the list,” head coach Gary Kubiak said, via ESPN. “He’s exceptional, one of the finest players I’ve ever seen, from being a quarterback guy and watching that position. This guy’s been exceptional for years and years. Really at the top of his game right now.”

Sunday in New Orleans will be strength against strength, with Brees representing a serious threat to Denver’s impressive streak in stopping opposing quarterbacks.
