The Winter Classic is just days away and is set to be played between the Bruins and Canadians. But tradition will be broken at this Winter Classic when NBC announced they will not let Boston legend Rene Rancourt sing the national anthem. Rene has been performing the national anthem for the Boston Bruins for over 35 years but will not be allowed to sing on January 1st. Instead NBC said Jordan Smith the winner of the Voice will perform.
This is just an awful attempted to promote a very sub-par show. So Bruins fans voiced their displeasure about this news and started a petition. The petition was started by Boston native Ross McDonagh earlier this week and has collected just about 10,000 signatures so far. I think this is great; nothing is more powerful than the voice of the people. Let’s just hope the league listens and lets Rene perform.
