Bruins Opener

Tonight the Boston Bruins will start out their 2015 regular season at the Garden against the Winnipeg Jets.  The Bruins should be off to an interesting start this season and most people do not really know what to expect. As typical Boston fans we expect and accept nothing but excellence however this season has a few kinks to be worked out for that to happen. Of course there are the obvious ones such as the fact that their Captain and leader for the past nine years counting this coming year. Ever since Joe Thornton left the Bruins and Chara has filled in as Captain he has lead the team into many winning seasons and successful playoff runs including a Stanley Cup Victory in 2011. Filling his shoes due to his injury for the start of the season will be extremely challenging even though he has been on the decline of late his physical and locker room presence is above and beyond that of anyone else on the ice. The Bruins defense is already short and lacking talent but look for the enigma of Dennis Seidenberg among Torey Krug, Kevan Miller and Adam Mcquaid with new comer Matt Irwin.

The next issue has to be that we do not have a established goal scorer. Plain and simple we do not have someone that can go out late in games and put the puck in the net to win a game here and there. We can not have another year like last year where we are not able to score and when we do we have an off night on defense. We need to  be more consistent throughout the season and we need to finish games and the season as a whole. As a fan you can hope that Tuukka Rask has a year where he could be considered for the Venza trophy which as we all know he has the capability to. You also need to rely on the veterans especially the potential line or mix of Bergeron, Krejci, Kelly, Marchand, along with the new kids from last year who stepped up can repeat and have a big reliable year such as Pastrnak, and Eriksson along with the help of the rookies especially the home town hero Jimmy Hayes.

This season does have some hope, and with the woes of last year looming because the Bruins failed to make the playoffs for a first time in a long while. As us Boston fans know, it is very uncommon for only one team to make the playoffs in a season of the four major sports, however the Patriots made up for it and went out and won a Super Bowl. This year as any other we hope the Bruins can win the Stanley Cup, however I strongly disagree with anyone that thinks that is a reasonable goal. I realize it is the goal of all 30 NHL teams however I just do not see anything in the Boston Bruins this season sitting at the position we are currently in. We are in a situation where the coach in Claude Juilen may be on the way out along with some old centerpieces of the team and the team could be heading into the direction of youth. Either way I wish the Bruins the best of luck this season and I look forward to watching what they do and what direction they choose to go in this coming year, but if I can get one point across to Boston fans it would be, you do not have to win every year, in fact I think a good goal for the Bruins this year that could be accomplish would be to make the playoffs as a wild card, Boston fans if the season turns into a bad one have patient, play it out and wait until they can compete again.

Go Bruins!!
