Bruins Trade Deadline Moves

TMSBlues

This is our team, the trade deadline has now passed and the Bruins made a total of two moves. It was a very slow day for the most part as both Bruins trades did not become official until just after the deadline passed at 3:00 PM.

The first trade became official at 3:35 PM. The Bruins acquired defenseman John-Michael Liles from the Carolina Hurricanes for prospect winger Anthony Camara, a third-round pick in 2016 and a fifth-round pick in 2017.

This is a very interesting call, I find John-Michael Liles to just be an average player. When the Bruins said they were going to trade for a defenseman I pictured a young guy just about to hit his prime. Instead we got a 35 year old veteran defenseman who has already peaked but can still play. His stats are not anything to brag about as he only has six goals and 15 points this season. The only positive I see out of this is Liles can handle the puck, he has decent hands. Did this trade make the Bruins better, not really. Is it going to hurt us, not at all. We would have the same team with or without Liles.

The Second trade of the day became official just after the first one at 3:36 PM. This time the Bruins acquired winger Lee Stempniak from the New Jersey Devils for a 2017 second- and 2016 fourth-round pick.

This trade did not need to happen at all. I will be shocked if he has any impact in the success of the Bruins. I hope he proves me wrong, but I can’t see it happening. Suitcase Stempniak is a common nickname for him as this is his ninth team he has been part of. He is also 33 years old, once again I expected somebody young who can score and stempniak really is not that. We need younger players not more guys in their 30’s. One positive to take out of the trade is he led the Devils in scoring with 16 goals and 41 points.

All in all this year’s trade deadline was another let down. No big trades, no real big names will come to Boston. This year is different too we can’t complain that Chiarelli has done nothing, he is gone. It should have been easy to get rid of Loui Eriksson. To me Loui Erickson is one of those players who will help you get to the playoffs but once you are there will not help you at all. If you are a Bruins fan today was a real disappointment.
