The C-USA has turned into the Big 12 in terms of offense, except on a much less talented scale. The offenses, such as Tulsa, Houston, and Southern Miss have turned into among the best in the country stat-wise.
Also, schools like Marshall, Southern Miss, and East Carolina have turned into minor gateways to the NFL. For a conference that has never had a BCS team, they have quite a few next level players that could be NFL draft picks come late April next football off-season.
1. DeAndre Brown, Wide Receiver, Southern Miss
-A top notch receiving talent, his size, speed, and ball skills make him a future number one receiver in the NFL.
2. Case Keenum, Quarterback, Houston
-Will have to override the system quarterback label, he has less arm strength but more accuracy than former Cougar Kevin Kolb.
3. Mario Harvey, Outside Linebacker, Marshall
-An impact linebacker thanks to his physical play, “Thumper” as he’s called could be a top notch 3-4 inside linebacker.
4. Damaris Johnson, Wide Reciever, Tulsa
-In a great offense for four years now, he’s the most talented receiver to come from Tulsa with his size and speed combo.
5. Donald Buckram, Running Back, UTEP
-Physical back with great burst, he’ll need another dominate season to stay in the draftable running back area.
6. Patrick Edwards, Wide Receiver, Houston
-Speedy system receiver, he has a similar skill set to Davone Bess, who left Hawaii’s “run and gun” and starts in the NFL.
7. Trae Johnson, Wide Receiver, Tulsa
-The most productive receiver in Tulsa history, his consistency, speed, and route running could give him an NFL look.
8. Emmanuel Davis, Safety, East Carolina
-An impact safety, he’ll have to deal with the loss of tons of NFL talent on that defense. Has a chance to shine this year.
9. Melvin Patterson, Linebacker, East Carolina
-The other Pirate back from a defense, Patterson is a versatile linebacker who blitzes well and can drop in coverage.
10. Brian Anderson, Quarterback, Marshall
-Very athletic and mobile, if he can hold off Willy Korn from Clemson and other young QBs, he could thrive in 2010.
